Sweet Bling
If you haven’t checked out the niche of candy jewelry any time recently, you may be impressed by the new and varied selection of sugary bling. The Topps brand is now featuring a line of “Limited Edition Sweet Shop Flavors”, which contain “real fruit juice” (pear concentrate being listed as the second-to-last ingredient, just before red dye #3).
The familiar oversized and flashy ruby and diamond rings a la Richie Rich still hold their position on the candy shelf, but take a look at the inspired new flavors that Topps is now serving forth: Root Beer Float, Cotton Candy, Sweet Cinnamon Swirl and Caramel Apple, to name a few. What better way to win the heart of your sweet-toothed sweetie than slipping a fat Shirley Temple-flavored candy ring on her/his coco-stained finger?
The Cotton Candy Bubble Gum ring features vibrant pink and purple stripes and tastes like cotton candy, bubble gum and a spoonful of sugar. The Shirley Temple ring features bold, playful bands of bright red and yellow and tastes like very sweet grenadine and…a spoonful of sugar. If eating a spoonful of sugar is somehow beneath you, then you might enjoy this product purely for its accessorizing potential.
Of course, the classic candy necklace still fairly ubiquitous, being produced by several different companies in a wide array of colors and sizes. Target sells a pack of solid colored necklaces for a sophisticated, monochromatic look. Koko’s offers seasonal items – if you’re searching for the perfect bunny bracelet with which to tie your Easter outfit together. Ask you sugar daddy or mama to buy you a pretty, pretty watch so you can be sure that it is ALWAYS candy-o-clock. All you d.i.y.ers won’t want to miss the “Bucket of Beads,” which allows you to string together a custom work of your very own creation. And, although it cannot exactly be classified as “bling”, the Kandy Teef would make a fine accoutrement to any unapologetic sugar fiend’s ensemble.

I’m glad the trend of limited editions has hit the candy jewelry world. I think this is mostly for the ladies or for guys who attend many a Dave Matthews show.
