Caramel, Taste The Difference
Lately there have been quite a few candies reintroduced to us with new and different flavor pairings. One of the more common combinations seems to be chocolate and caramel. A likely pair, right? And typically a delicious one at that.
So I decided to taste test the new Hershey’s chocolate bar with caramel filling, and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups With Caramel. The verdict? I give the Hershey’s bar two thumbs up. It had the same great creamy chocolate flavor I’ve always known and loved, along with the addition of a delicious caramel filling. Hershey’s has given this new candy bar just the right amount of caramel: you can tell it’s there, but it doesn’t overpower the chocolate at all. There is a fine line, and Hershey’s knows how to walk it.
On the other hand, I just want to ask Reese’s, “Where’s the caramel?” The new caramel peanut butter cups are good, but that’s because they taste just like the normal ol’ Reese’s Cups. I know there was caramel in the cups because it stuck to the little brown wrapper, but I certainly couldn’t taste it. Sometimes you just shouldn’t mess with a good thing.

I too found the Reese’s caramel pleasant, but unnecessary in the whole Reese’s line.
The Hershey’s caramel thing is kind of interesting because they’re using the same production technique for several bars. It’s like they said, “Let’s make gooey filled bars” and then decided what to put in them. The caramel bar is far better (and deserves to be part of their regular line) than the Lt. Ed. Double Chocolate.
