How Much Is That Chocolate Doggie Treat in the Window?

Traveling always exposes one to new food customs and products. Since I’ve been to Spain a few times, I didn’t really expect to find anything that would seem REALLY different than I’ve seen before. But I have to admit, one packaged food did stop me dead in my tracks — dog biscuits filled with beef, salmon and chocolate.
The Spanish do have great chocolate and do enjoy it morning and night, but feeding chocolate to dogs? I couldn’t translate the package enough to fully understand what kind of chocolate or chocolate by-product the manufacturers used. I had always thought real chocolate was dangerous for canines’ health so I was very surprised. Maybe it is just some kind of extract or flavoring. However they do it, obviously a dog’s life in Madrid involves a little chocolate.
