The Chocolate Box — See’s Piece by Piece #27 - Scotch Kiss

Wouldn’t it be sweet, some candy inventor at See’s Candies must have thought, if we married our wonderful butterscotch caramel with our soft and chewy honey marshmallow?

The result was the Scotch Kiss, piece number 19 on the See’s Candies website and catalog.

How sweet was it? You’ll just have to read the tasting report to find out.

Description: A one-inch roundish pillow of white marshmallow covered with a thin layer of tan caramel. At some points the butterscotch caramel coating is a bit thin and the white of the marshmallow peeks out at you. The candy is wrapped in a twist of waxed paper, a homey touch that totally suits this old-fashioned sweet.

Taste: The old-fashioned wrapper may have its charm, but it might not be the best way to preserve the caramel’s texture. My piece’s caramel was a bit dried out and grainy, although the rich, warm flavor of the caramel was very enjoyable. The marshmallow was soft and a bit chewy. Each bite of the candy melted in my mouth and was quite satisfying. One surprise is how the candy was not too sweet considering its makeup.

Ingredients: Sugar, corn syrup, cream, honey, butter, egg whites, gelatin, vanilla, salt, hydrogenated oils (soybean and coconut), cornstarch

Well Fed Network Rating: As compared to other See’s Candies, I’d rate the Scotch Kiss as a 7.25. I enjoyed it and might choose it again, but I’d rather have one of See’s Candies other wonderful caramel products. Pros: Very satisfying and not overly sweet. Cons: Caramel was a bit dry and grainy.
