The Chocolate Box — See’s Piece by Piece #29 — Milk Chocolate Raisins

Sometimes the simplest things are the best. Take nice, plump, almost juicy raisins and lots and lots of good milk chocolate coating. What do you get? See’s Candies’ Milk Raisins and a real winner.

Tasting Reportbridgemix

Description: These raisins are drenched with so much milk chocolate you can hardly see a wrinkle. A little smaller than the tip of a pinky, they are a glistening milk chocolate brown. Bite into one and you can see the quality raisin and get a close up view of just how much chocolate See’s enrobes these dried grapes with. At See’s stores (see the website for locations), you can buy these milk chocolate treats by the scoop or as part of a packaged candy assortment. On the web, Milk Chocolate Raisins appear to only be available as part of a one pound box of bridge mix, pictured above. The raisins are also available in dark chocolate.

Tasting Report: Munching on this candy (try not to eat these raisins by the handful, they deserve to be savored) is like eating little bits of sunshine. The chocolate mixes well with the almost jammy flavor of the raisin. The raisins are very tender and fresh tasting.

See’s Trivia: See’s Candies’ first shop in San Francisco opened in 1937 on Polk Street. It is still in operation.

Ingredients: Milk chocolate covering (sugar, milk, cocoa butter, chocolate, soy lecithin, vanillin), raisins, sugar, corn syrup, dextrin, confectionery glaze.

Well Fed Network Rating: As compared to other See’s Candies, I would rate Milk Chocolate Raisins at 9.5 out of 10. They would always have a place in The Chocolate Box. Pros: Tasty, plump raisins and delicious chocolate without any frills. Con: Not for those who dislike raisins or like a more complex interplay of flavors.
