Catalog Offers Up Halloween Tricks and Treats
Catalogs for Halloween tricks and treats have begun arriving at my household. My favorite for the most creative (and probably least gourmet) is the Oriental Trading Company’s. Its merchandise ranges from the sensible (small packs of pretzels) to the wonderfully grotesque (eyeball gum balls with cherry centers) to the downright disgusting (gummy bugs, brains, barf and bloody fingers) sure to delight the 10-year-old boy in your life.
Some of their offerings include:
• A Halloween treasure chest filled with five pounds of assorted individually wrapped candy ($16.95)
• An assortment of snack size York peppermint “battys,” Reese’s milk chocolate covered peanut butter pumpkins and Hershey’s milk chocolate ghosts. (A one pound assortment is $10.95)
• Plastic cauldrons filled with foil wrapped chocolate “body parts.” (A dozen cauldrons for $19.95)
• IV-style bags of watermelon flavored “blood” liquid candy, blood type S+ ($4.95 a dozen).
• A variety of lollipops and suckers from the sweet to the sour. These include skeleton pops (each round, red lollipop candy is impaled with a leg or arm skeleton) at $6.95 a dozen, skull-shaped suckers with ($7.95 a dozen) or without ($5.95 for two dozen) candy dipping powder, monster hand, mummy and frosted rat suckers (each $5.95 a dozen), “Halloween-shaped” suckers on glow sticks ($7.95 a dozen), and tart-flavored eyeball lollipops ($6.95 for four dozen).
There is nothing much gourmet here, but there are lots of fun shapes and treats for Halloween celebrations for children, teens and even adult-themed parties.
