The Chocolate Box — See’s Piece by Piece #35 — Mint Chocolate Truffle

Smooth. Suave. That’s what a good chocolate mint candy should aim to be. Seductive. Rich. Almost debonair, but with more than a dash of cool excitement. A candy you’d like to take a bite out of after dinner and want to keep around for a little something special the next day. Does See’s Candies Mint Chocolate Truffle have what it take to make hearts go pitter patter or will it just make us want to reach for the peppermint patties?

Tasting Report:mntchoctruf
Description: One of See’s Candies’ premium truffle line, the Mint Chocolate Truffle looks much like some of the other See’s chocolate truffles. It’s roughly rectangular filling of smooth mint chocolate buttercream beckons beneath a slick glossy dark chocolate brown coat adorned with distinctive drizzles of white chocolate designed to let the candy eater know which flavor is which in the box.

Taste: Have I told you how smooth and creamy this truffle was? To bite into it was positively sensual. To actually taste it was downright medicinal. Texture and quality of the chocolate alone can not make up for the harsh astringency of this candy. This mint was not meant for me. I much prefer See’s Candies’ peppermint patties, which you can read more about here.

Ingredients: Alas. Not only is this shy truffle not shown on See’s web site, it is not included on my ingredients list. Based on the listing for the White Mint Truffle, I assume it also features peppermint oil as a major flavoring ingredient.

Well Fed Network Rating: I thought I would swoon for this candy and when disappointed, the Well Fed rating took a nose dive. But after some careful consideration I think I can give the Mint Chocolate Truffle 5.5 out of 10 as compared to other See’s Candies. Pros: Smooth texture and wonderful chocolate. Con: The mint flavor was harsh and unappealing. Don’t look for this candy in The Chocolate Box.
