Take How Many? You Want Me To Take 5?

I’m completely in love with Hershey’s Take 5 candy bars. Chocolate and peanut butter has always been one of the ultimate flavor pairings for me, ranked right up there with mint and chocolate or caramel and salt. And we all know that Hershey’s mastered the chocolate and peanut butter combination with the Reese’s Cup, but they’ve taken it one step beyond that with the Take 5 candy bar.

Take 5 gets its name because it’s packed full of five flavors. I know what you’re thinking, that seems like taste bud overload right? Surprisingly enough it’s just the right number of flavors. The original Take 5, which was introduced to the public in December 2004, packs a flavorful punch of peanuts, peanut butter, caramel, pretzels and creamy milk chocolate - so you get the sweet with the salty, and the smooth and creamy with the crunchy. Perfect! The original Take 5 was such a huge success that Hershey has since created several versions including two which are limited edition; white chocolate and marshmallow.

I really like the Take 5 too, it’s probably the best use of a pretzel I’ve found (I’m usually not too fond of them). But white chocolate and marshmallow are just two ways for a company to say “how cheap can we make this thing and still have people buy it?”. White chocolate is not chocolate, especially the Hershey variety, and marshmallow, while it has it’s place, does not belong here. I’ll wait to see if they add coconut or use dark chocolate, then that would be worth trying a new version.

Rick, I have to say that the pretzel really ties everything together for me with the Take 5. I haven’t tried any of the other varieties so I can’t compare. I also like white chocolate, but when there is a white chocolate version of a candy bar introduced I tend to like the milk chocolate better. Although I think the white chocolate Reese’s Cups are excellent!

I can’t imagine where marshmallow would do anything to improve the Take 5 for my taste buds. Assuming they don’t try to incoporate the coconut in with the peanut butter a coconut & dark chocolate Take 5 would be worth the taste test for me! =)
