Dark Chocolate M&M’s Will Be Around For A While

Dark Chocolate M&M’s were first introduced to us as part of the chocolate M-pire back in 2005. Limited Edition Dark Chocolate M&M’s were a huge success - their makers had over 30,000 inquiries from consumers trying to locate the product last year. With such high demands how could Mars, the parent company, resist making Dark Chocolate M&M’s a permanent offering?

The dark chocolate version of the Mars brand candy offers smooth dark chocolate, coated in that brightly-colored, crunchy shell we all know and love. The brand has also launched a new ad campaign for the Dark Chocolate M&M’s at the famous Guggenheim Museum in New York City. According to their website, the company has

brought the “fun” of M&M’s to an admittedly dark masterpiece, Edvard Munch’s The Scream. The new ad campaign features Red, the iconic M&M’S character, unexpectedly playing hopscotch in the background of the celebrated work of art — bringing a bit of levity and sense of humor to the famous dark existential painting.

In addition, the brand is offering a handsome reward - 2 million dark chocolate M&M’s to anyone who can safely return the original The Scream painting, which was stolen on August 22, 2004 from the Munch Museum in Oslo, Norway.

The Scream was found late last month. Mars said they intend to honor the reward as soon as they figure out who the credit goes to (it was good old fashioned police work, at last word and Mars was offering the M&Ms to the Oslo police dept.).
