Little Flower Candy Company Caramels

caramels

I picked up these caramels at Miette in the Ferry Terminal Building in San Francisco. I loved that they were in huge apothecary jars next to the cashier. They were begging to be purchased. Produced by the Little Flower Candy Company, they come in three flavors, vanilla caramel, lemon caramel and sea salt caramel.

The vanilla caramel was nicely flavored, though a bit less milky than a Kraft caramel. It could have been helped by a little bit of salt, since the sweetness was a little overwhelming.

The lemon caramel smells quite lemony. It reminded me a little of lemon Starburst. The lemon flavor seems to mostly come from the scent of the candy rather than on the tongue. The candy seems a bit confused trying to decide whether it is a lemony or a milky candy.

Realizing that a lot of the experience of the other caramels was scent-based, I brought the sea salt caramel to my nose as well. Contrasting it against the others, I could immediately tell that I would prefer it over the others with its less sweet tone. The sea salt is integrated through the entire caramel rather than in flecks as is common with many salted caramels. The salt is a nice contrast though I could taste that the caramel, if eaten in large quantities, would have me gasping for water.
