Hershey’s Goes Organic

In the five short years since Dagoba Organic Chocolate was founded the company has made quite a name for itself among chocolate lovers interested in high-quality natural and organic products. Based in Oregon the company was founded by Frederick Schilling in 2001, and offers chocolate-covered coffee beans, hot chocolate, and of course, chocolate bars. Consumers are becoming more and more interested in natural and organic foods with each passing day, which explains why Dagoba and other organic chocolate makers are experiencing such dramatic growth. All this growth and success hasn’t gone unnoticed with other chocolate makers either. Hershey’s has definitely taken notice of the rising trend toward natural and organic. In fact, just this week the Hershey Company acquired the operations and assets of Dagoba Organic Chocolate,LLC. The company will remain based in Ashland, Oregon.

In a press release from Hershey, Frederick Schilling, CEO and founder of Dagoba is quoted as having said, “This is a tremendous opportunity for Dagoba. Hershey’s deep commitment to quality and sustainability throughout its supply chain will help Dagoba improve and expand its mission of improving cacao farmers’ livelihoods and expanding organic farming methods.” If you remember, not all that long ago Hershey also added Scharffen Berger and Joseph Schmidt brands to their expanding portfolio of premium products.
