Cran-tastic!

emilyscran.jpgI came across a little something new this week at Target.   Both seasonally festive AND healthy, Emily’s dark chocolate covered cranberries are the complete package of confectionary health.  It’s an antioxidant coated in yet another antioxidant.  Oh, and some of those choice Omega-3 fatty acids (in the dark chocolate) thrown in for good measure.

In the interest of protecting ourselves from Alzheimer’s disease, heart disease and various cancers, I do say that this is a measure in prevention that we simply cannot afford NOT to take.  And at only $3.99 for a 7-ounce bag, it’s quite easy on the ol’ pocketbook, not to mention taste buds.

Emily’s, based in Fife, Washington (just North of Tacoma and home to my beloved Almond Roca, by the by) also makes dark chocolate covered blueberries and strawberries, milk chocolate covered raisins, and several varieties of chocolate covered nuts.   The quality and purity of the ingredients is reflected not only in the actual list of the ingredients, but also in a “credo” of sorts printed on the back of the package:

“Growing up in family who loved to travel, taste was my way of finding out about the world. Here’s what I learned: Things taste best when they are pure and natural. Ingredients matter; don’t cut corners. (There are times in life when you can skimp on quality. Food is not one of them.) All chocolate is not created equal, and if you’re going to indulge in a chocolate confection, go for the best.”

I couldn’t have said it better myself.  If you appreciate honest and clean ingredients, these may become your go-to chocolate covered berries and nuts.

[…] And Sugar Savvy is all about cranberries this morning. […]

Joanna is my personal sugar guru, but anyone is welcome to respond. I’m going to a thanksgiving party where a cheese course will be served in lieu of dessert. I need to have sugar after every meal so I’d like to bring some kind of chocolates that could be complementary to a cheese plate. Any thoughts??

Wow, fancy new look. Glad to see more chocolate covered tastiness and at such a good price.

I saw something similar that will go in my wife’s christmas stocking…strawberry rhubarb bites. Yum Yum Yum.

Bunbun: Well, any one of the Emily’s selections would go well with cheese, especially the dark chocolate covered almonds. But really, you couldn’t go wrong with ANY good chocolate. It’s clean, simple, unintrusive. And only a fool would be offended by its presence. Because while I do love cheese (and I really do) it is NOT dessert. It just isn’t. Sorry.

Tripp: A true gift to your wife would be something that only SHE likes - thereby guaranteeing their safety from her “sharing” husband. I’m just sayin… Glad you liked the review and the site’s new suit. Nice, right?

chocolates to compliment a cheese course? Excellent question - I would say it depends on the cheeses, but I would imagine dark & bittersweet chocolate would be a better compliment.

I’m so glad to see the redesign! (Though I don’t think the RSS feed is working any longer.)

I’ve had the chocolate covered cranberries from Trader Joe’s a couple of times. Though I want to like them, they don’t taste that different from chocolate covered raisins. I think I’ll just stick to dried cranberries for now.

Cybele - we’re working on getting the RSS feeds; should be back up by the end of the week. :)
