Cranking Out The Candy Canes
With Christmas now officially one month away I’m already on a sugar high from the seasonal candy. I would imagine I’m not the only person feeling the buzz from eating all the festive candy that sparks my interest, especially considering how many candy canes the Spangler Candy Co. is making already. The company, which also makes Dum Dums, Saf-T-Pops and Circus Peanuts is really feeling the pressure. Spangler’s two manufacturing plants, one in Ohio and the other in Cuidad Juarez, Mexico, are producing candy canes at record levels, making 3 million canes each day.
These record production levels are nothing new to the workers of both Spangler plants. In June output increased, and did so again in September. September marks the first time in history that the Ohio plant has operated for six days around the clock. Wonder what the workers at the Spangler Candy Co. have on their Christmas list this year? I’m betting they’d ask for a vacation day or two.
