Translucent Appeal

The first few bites are always the best.
Perhaps it was the alluring candy coated shells, or perhaps it was the cute 3”x 3” clear box, or perhaps it was the fact that I just had a less than satiating dinner at The Olive Garden, but it took only 20 seconds for me to tear open the trademarked translucent package that Translucent Chocolates sent for me to review. I tasted instant gratification. The chocolate pieces melted in my mouth and molded with the satisfying crunch of sunflower seeds and almonds. It took more internal strength that I thought I could muster to not eat the deceptively small box. I’d never had chocolate-covered sunflower seeds and this was a good blend of sweet and bitter. And if you really have a weakness for almond M&Ms, I suggest you try the Translucent chocolate-covered almonds.
After a few fingerfuls of chocolaty sunflower seeds though, my appetite for the chocolates waned. I felt gypped. I was sent the “Fall” box from the seasonal line of Translucent Chocolates. Amid colorful assortments and many varieties advertised on their website from caramels, espresso beans, pistachios, and dried fruit, I got mostly brown and a sprinkle of purple colored chocolate sunflower seeds, and about eight green covered almonds. The brown, green, and purple mix didn’t evoke images of autumn to me, and because I had a sneak peak at the varieties offered on their website, I was overall disappointed in the presentation of my box, even if the taste was pleasing.
That said, I would still encourage you to check out the company website. As they advertise and suggest, I can easily imagine the chocolates as a perfect gift for retirement parties, weddings, baby showers, and just about any gathering that you would like to send people off with an adult goody bag. You can also custom your own mixes so you won’t have to feel compelled to purchase the lackluster fall mix. There are lots of bright and fun colors and blends to choose from in the online store: brilliant green and orange hues, as well as pastel pinks and blues. You can find nearly any color and chocolate covered treat to squeeze into your very own 3” by 3” translucent box to send to friends and family, ensuring that their last bite is just as appealing as their first.

I had this Fall mix several months ago; and I found it to be very cutting edge, rather than the usual boring orange, yellow and red fall colors. Maybe you just needed something more bright to make up for the utter lack of sunshine these Winter/Spring months bring! I do agree with you though, no matter what the color (and I do love that you can get them customized, as I use them for client gifts) - they always taste great and they are very ’sweet’ to work with.
