Crazy for Cold Stone
After a terrible, hot day where my body overheated while gardening and my hot water wouldn’t work (hence, can’t take a good shower), I ran out to a local retailer and bought a new dishwasher and an air-conditioner in a period of about 10 minutes. Afterwards, my shocked husband (that’s the biggest, fastest purchase I have ever made) suggested we make a pit stop at Cold Stone Creamery. How could I turn down such a wonderful offer on such a hot day?
I have to admit, when it comes to ice cream, I am crazy for Cold Stone. I love the Cold Stone Creations. I love the add-ins. I love the sweet cream and cake batter ice creams. Mmmm. Sure you can say that there are other ice creams out that that you like better, and that’s your prerogative. But I love Cold Stone.
Ben and Jerry’s and Baskin Robbins were novel for awhile because of their variety of flavors. And there are some great small farm creameries out there. But Cold Stone? It tastes good and it’s different from your average ice cream chain. I love how they add the extras to the ice cream on a cold stone (hence the name) right in front of you. How cool is that? You can literally customize your ice cream.
Cold Stone premiered in 1988 in Tempe, Arizona (now that’s a hot place in need of some cooling down!). Today, there are more than 1,300 locations nationwide, and a few stores abroad. There are also plans to expand into the Middle East.

In her words, “because we aren’t Candy Savvy, we are Sugar Savvy, and there is a lot more to sweet than just candy.” Judging from recent posts by other SS writers, this new mandate seems to have taken off.
