Nestle Dark Raisinets
Yesterday I was feaning for some good, chilled fruit at work - or at least some antioxidant rich dark chocolate. But the cafeteria was closed and the general store in my building has only a paltry supply of candy. I toyed with the idea of just waiting, but the craving was a sign of my nutrient-unrich breakfast and lunch. Scanning the racks of the store, I saw nothing to placate me . . . but then I noticed something with a bold “new” corner: Nestle Dark Raisinets.
These little babies are Nestle Dark Chocolate and California Raisins (although in truth it’s not really dark chocolate, as Cybele of Candy Blog points out here - the chocolate contains milkfats which make it a dark milk chocolate). And truth be told, they aren’t new - they debuted a year ago (!) which concerned me a bit about the age of the candy I had purchased.
I practically ran the distance back to my office and immediately tore into the package. I was caught with a whiff of the familiar Raisinet smell, until I got up close - then the scent of dark chocolate became aparant (and all I could think was: why am I sniffing chocolate?).
A taste showed that the chocolate is still sweet, but not crack a tooth sweet like the regular Raisinets. About a third of the way through the bag, they seemed to get even sweeter - which really wasn’t a good thing.
So the verdict? I like these better than the traditional Raisinets for sure. And they were tasty. But eat half a bag and save the rest for later - that way they won’t delve into the “ugh” territory.
