Contaminated Candy News

Really, it was only a matter of time before the instances of food contamination hit our candy supply too. In the latest example, a Mexican candy has been recalled for possibly containing high amounts of lead. The Associated Press reports that California state officials are warning consumers to stop eating De La Rosa Pulparindo candy that has been imported from Mexico.

De La Rosa Pulparindo is a tamarind pulp candy that comes packed in 10-ounce boxes containing individually wrapped half-ounce candies. The boxes are bright red in color with the word “Pulparindo” boldly printed in black letters.

Meanwhile, China has started shipping their White Rabbit milk candy again after addressing concerns that it was tainted with formaldehyde. Formaldehyde is best known as an embalming agent but is also used as a preservative and in the manufacturing of some plastic products. According to the company, tests performed on the candy show no traces of the formaldehyde and they claim not to use any preservatives at all.
