Do You Like Green Eggs and Ham and Pancakes?
Brace yourself (and your children, if applicable) for the sugar rush that the International House of Pancakes, a.k.a. IHOP, has dreamed up. The breakfast-centric restaurant chain has paired with 20th Century Fox for a special cross-promotional menu to celebrate the opening of its film Dr. Seuss’ Horton Hears a Who! Jim Carrey voices the elephant character named Horton, who hears a small cry coming from a tiny speck of a being—the very small Whos of Whoville—and Steve Carell voices the Mayor. Select from four new menu items such as the whimsical likes of rainbow-dressed pancakes, green eggs and ham and Jell-O filled, lemon-lime soda.
The Who-Cakes, priced at $3.99 for a stack, are named after the Whos and come with a blueberry and boysenberry glaze, rainbow chocolate chips and a pink lollipop. Those who have an adventurous taste for beverages can order the Beezlenut Splash ($1.99), a lemon-lime soda that features suspended, floating cubes of cherry and berry blue Jell-O. Parents might order the Mayor’s Breakfast ($6.99), a combination meal, instead: it’s comprised of eggs scrambled with spinach, served with ham, hash browns and a choice of Who-Cakes or IHOP’s own buttermilk pancakes. Little ones with smaller appetites can order a junior version of that with Jo-Jo’s Breakfast ($3.99), with one scrambled green egg and ham and a smaller stack of Who-Cakes.
The promotion runs through April 21 and the film has already grossed more than $40 million at the box office in its first weekend, so there are probably many Seuss-curious children (and their nostalgic parents) who might enjoy this indulgence, perhaps in limited, supervised doses.
