What’s Your Favorite Reese’s?

reese.jpgSometimes the shape of candy greatly affects its taste.  Take Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, for example.  The taste of a regular Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup is quite different from the taste of a Reese’s Miniature Cup or a Reese’s Big Cup.

One factor as to why shape of the Reese’s affects its taste is the ratio of peanut butter to chocolate.  This delicate balance of flavors can make or break a candy bar.  Too much chocolate, and you lose the salty/sweet nuances that make the peanut butter/chocolate combination so good.  Too little chocolate, and the inherent palate coating dryness of peanut butter will overtake your taste buds.

The other factor has to do with mouth feel.  Is the chocolate coating thick and chunky?  Or is it thin and smooth?  When you bite into the candy do the two flavors blend together or remain distinct?

So what do I think is the perfect Reese’s?

In my opinion, the peanut butter goodness of Reese’s Peanut Butter Filled Eggs is unmatched.  The small foil wrapped eggs have the perfect ratio of chocolate to peanut butter, and the smooth oval shape gives them a superior mouth feel in comparison to the sharper edges of the regular Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups.  Alas, these delightful little mouthfuls only come once a year.  Luckily I have couple of bags stashed away to last me until next Easter!

So, what’s your favorite Reese’s?
