Where the Wild Things are… Graffiti Zoo
A favorite shopping stop of mine is Harry’s Farmer’s Market. It has long since been bought by Whole Foods, but it hasn’t lost too much of its local charm. As I walked by what I call the “whopping wall of chocolate,” I noticed tall color-coated boxes labeled as Graffiti Zoo. A local product out of Conyers, Georgia, I was intrigued by the names and the flavor descriptions, Almond Armadillos (crunchy milk chocolate with a dash of amaretto), Bohemian Tree Frogs (milk chocolate, raspberries & toasted almonds), Barking Dogs (milk chocolate, butter crunch toffee with roasted almonds is surrounded with milk chocolate), Island Dragonflies (dark chocolate & tangerine), Zanzibar Racing Snails (dark chocolate, cranberries & roasted almonds topped with sea salt & sugar crystals), Margarita Manatee (white chocolate & key lime), and my purchase, Pink Flamingos (milk chocolate, cherries & coconut).
According to Graffiti Zoo, Our chocolates are handmade in small batches, using only the freshest of ingredients & most unusual flavor combinations, to create an unforgettable chocolate experience! And, as a responsible company to our local community, we believe in giving something back. So, in keeping with our love of animals, we donate a portion of our proceeds to the Conservation Endowment Fund of the American Zoo & Aquarium.
The chocolates are stored in airtight bags in thin chunks. I don’t know what I expected, but it wasn’t random shards of chocolate. Nonetheless, when I bit into the chocolate, I found it agreeably flavored with the cherries and coconut, neither overwhelming the other. Price wise, it will cost slightly more than chocolate you’d find at the grocers, around $7.00/ounce. After all, it is a specialty item. But it is worth it for that special chocolate craving. It’s a different product and one that would be fun to give as a gift. It also might be fun if having a themed party, adult or child, that surrounds itself around animals, especially for animal foundations.
