The Last of the Cookies
Much loved Mother’s Cookies, a Northern California institution for over 90 years, announced that it is filing bankruptcy and will cease production of its cookies as of this Monday. The company claims that rising prices for raw materials and fuel were the reasons behind the rather abrupt announcement made last Friday.
It is sad to see this beloved cookie company fall victim to our current hard economic times. If you live on the west coast or in California, I am sure you are familiar with Mother’s Cookies, especially their famous pink and white frosted Circus Animal Cookies, a definite childhood favorite.
For those of you who may be unfamiliar with these cookies, Circus Animal Cookies are simple little sugar cookies in the shape of various animals that have been enrobed in a sugary white or pink icing and dotted with crunchy multi-colored sprinkles. These are not gourmet by any means, just a simple sugary treat that brings back childhood memories.
Some other favorites of mine are the Taffy Cookies (buttery sandwich cookies with a hint of coconut filled with sweet creme) and the Iced Oatmeal Cookies (crunchy spiced oatmeal cookies with hard icing on top).
If you are a fan of Mother’s Cookies, I suggest you grab a bag of your favorites before they are gone for good.

NOooooooooooooo! I love their iced oatmeal cookies!!!!!!
