Review: Vosges Woolloomooloo Bar

First, a disclaimer. I am picky about my sweets. Much to my mother’s dismay, I did not inherit her sweet tooth. While I do like sweets, because I eat so few of them, I’m just a little more particular about which ones, you know? I don’t just have chocolate for the sake of having chocolate. Well, until the folks at Vosges started sending me their chocolate … and lots of it. They sent a fabulous assortment, and I’m slowly making my way through them, one by one. Today? The Woolloomooloo Bar. If you know me, you know I like fun words and names for things, so this one had me at Woolloomooloo (say woo-luh-mull-loo, go on, you know you want to).

The GOOD: The bars come in .5 oz size, so it’s the perfect little something when you’re craving something sweet, but want to avoid the oh-no-what-did-I-do-and-where-did-all-the-chocolate-go guilt later when you’re staring at that empty wrapper. The packaging is subtle, clean and pictures just a hint of what’s inside. The bars are thin (which I love), have a nice glossy sheen, and a small slight snap when you break it. And good. Oh, they’re good alright.

The BAD: They can only be purchased online and some select chocolate boutiques, so if you’re going to have a craving, you’ll need to plan ahead… and quite possibly pay for shipping.

This particular bar features roasted and salted macadamia nuts, Indonesian coconut, hemp seeds and deep milk chocolate. As I took each little nibble, I paused and let it melt away in my mouth, to make sure I could taste the individual flavors. Although the roasted and salted macadamia nuts are definitely pronounced and come through loud and clear, the coconut and hemp seeds are just a whisper (although I gotta say, I have no idea what hemp seeds taste like basecase). I loved how smoothly the chocolate melted in my mouth. Between their packaging and slight exclusivity, these would make great gifts and stocking stuffers, so you better get to getting. The bars retail for $2.50 each, or you can purchase their mini library (9 bars) for $25.00.
